Tinubu Appoints New Heads for NIA and DSS

President Tinubu has appointed new leadership for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS), marking significant changes in Nigeria’s security apparatus.

The assignment of fresh Directors-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Department of State Services (DSS) has been sanctioned by President Bola Tinubu.

The appointment of Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed as the Director-General of NIA has been announced, alongside Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi’s new role as the Director-General of DSS.

Ajuri Ngelale, spokesman of Tinubu, revealed this in a statement.

Ambassador Mohammed possesses a remarkable record in the foreign service ever since he became part of NIA back in 1995. He has held diverse positions, ultimately leading to his elevation as a Director and then appointed as the chief officer who represents Nigeria’s interests accredited to Libya.

Having graduated from Bayero University in Kano, Nigeria in 1990, this individual later served at various locations including North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan and the State House in Abuja.

Mr. Adeola Ajayi, the recently appointed Director-General of DSS had climbed up the hierarchical ladder to reach his current position after holding several key portfolios in State Directorate roles across Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa,Rivers and Kogi.

The resignations of the former NIA and DSS leaders have resulted in these recent appointments.

President Tinubu has high hopes that the newly appointed security chiefs will diligently revive and improve both intelligence agencies. The president urges them to utilize their expertise in addressing the country’s persistent security threats by intensifying cooperation with allied agencies, while strategically aligning with the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The President expresses gratitude to the departing leaders of the two crucial intelligence organizations for their dedication to the country and extends well wishes for their future pursuits.
