President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima will now be required to pay tollgate fees when utilizing airports in Nigeria, as per the recent decision made by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
The council approved the elimination of exemptions previously granted to airport users regarding tollgate fees.
The approval was based on a memorandum presented by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, who highlighted the significant revenue loss of over 82% due to the non-payment of tollgate fees by users.

Initially, the memorandum proposed an exemption solely for the president and vice president, but Tinubu intervened and directed that they too should be included in the group required to pay.
Keyamo expressed his disappointment that wealthy Very Important Persons (VIPs) who should be paying have been exempt, while only the less privileged have been charged for using the tollgates. This unfair situation must be rectified.
