BREAKING: Suspected Yoruba Nation agitators make a bold move, storm Oyo Secretariat, raising their flag
Yoruba Nation activists, who are believed to be individuals advocating for the Yoruba nation, have once again heightened tensions by taking a bold step towards the Oyo State Secretariat. Their main target was the House of Assembly Complex located within the compound, just a short distance from the governor’s office. It has been reported that on a Saturday morning, these activists, dressed in military attire, descended upon the secretariat with the aim of seizing control of the Assembly Complex.
In a daring move, they engaged in a fierce exchange of gunfire with members of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), also known as Amotekun, as well as police and Operation Burst personnel. Despite facing initial resistance, security forces eventually managed to overpower the activists. However, before reinforcements arrived, the suspects had already taken control of the assembly complex premises and raised their flag.
Currently, the situation has been brought under control, thanks to the prompt response of the Police, Amotekun, and other security personnel. The aftermath of the incident has resulted in all routes leading to the secretariat being deserted, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
This concerning development mirrors a previous incident that occurred a few months ago when activists took over a radio station in Ibadan, further escalating tensions in the area. Despite the severity of the situation, attempts to obtain comments from the heads of security agencies in the state have so far been unsuccessful.
The incident emphasizes the ongoing agitation for the Yoruba nation and the increasingly bold tactics employed by its supporters. Such acts of defiance present significant challenges to the peace and stability of the region, underscoring the need for a swift and decisive response from the authorities.
The incident that occurred in May of the previous year, where individuals believed to be Yoruba nation agitators took control of Amuludun 99.1 FM Ibadan, highlights the ongoing and changing difficulties that the region is confronted with.
This serves as a reminder that the situation remains volatile and requires continuous attention. It is crucial for the authorities to stay watchful and determined in maintaining law and order to prevent any further escalation.
