Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central and is currently facing challenges, has brought Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio before the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) regarding her six-month suspension and accusations of sexual harassment.
At the Women in Parliament session held at the United Nations in New York, Natasha reported to the IPU about her alleged victimization by Akpabio.
In a heartfelt speech, the senator appealed for justice and urged global democratic institutions to intervene.
She characterized her suspension from the Senate as “unlawful” and an act of injustice towards her.
After delivering her speech, she voiced concerns about her safety, suggesting that the authorities in Nigeria might try to detain her in New York because she addressed the issue at a global event.
Remember that in March, the Nigerian Senate announced the suspension of Senator Natasha after recommendations from its Committee on Ethics, Rules, and Code of Conduct.
As a result of her suspension, she will not receive a salary, be prohibited from entering the National Assembly premises, and will be unable to refer to herself as a senator during this period.
