The local government election in Rivers State is moving forward as planned, even though stakeholders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to halt the process.
It has been reported that both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials have arrived at the Registration and Accreditation Centers (RACs) in several local government areas, such as the Government Technical College in Ahoada East.
The atmosphere in the state mirrors typical election day conditions, with roads noticeably quiet and a lack of presence from the Nigeria Police Force.

On Friday, Governor Fubara emphasized his dedication to proceeding with the election, even though the Rivers State Police Command decided not to oversee the process.
The governor alleged that Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun was trying to manipulate the election in favor of “a politician based in Abuja.”
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) highlighted that the election would take place as scheduled, urging residents to exercise their voting rights in line with the stipulations of the Electoral Act.
