BREAKING: Rivers State LG Elections Set for August 9

The Rivers State government has scheduled local government elections for August 9, following recent Supreme Court rulings and political tensions.

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has set August 9, 2025, as the date for new Local Government Council Elections in the state.

At a stakeholders’ meeting and the official unveiling of the 2025 Local Government Elections timetable and guidelines, held at the commission’s headquarters on Aba Road in Port Harcourt, RSIEC chairman, retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, announced the election date on Wednesday.

Justice Enebeli addressed the stakeholders and reaffirmed RSIEC’s dedication to holding an election that is free, fair, credible, and impartial. He urged political parties to follow the established rules.
