Nigerian Representative Alex Ikwechegh is set to be arraigned in Kuje court following allegations involving an Abuja Bolt driver, drawing public and media attention.
Abia federal lawmaker, Alex Ikwechegh, who assaulted a Bolt driver in Abuja, is set to be arraigned today at 12 noon before the Kuje Magistrate Court.
The investigation and prosecution of Ikwechegh are being managed by the Special Investigation Unit under the Inspector General of Police.
remembers that the lawmaker, representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State, was recorded in a viral video physically assaulting Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya.
The incident took place on October 27 as the driver was delivering a package to the lawmaker at a residence located on Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.
Nigerians have persistently reacted to and condemned the lawmaker’s actions.
Amid the public uproar, the struggling legislator issued an apology and pledged to cooperate with police in their investigation. He also revealed that he was pursuing counseling for his actions.
Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju announced that they are headed to Kuje Magistrate Court for the arraignment of the honorable member accused of assaulting their client, Mr. Steven, a Bolt driver. The investigation and prosecution is being handled by the IGP’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU).
Media representatives are invited to cover the arraignment scheduled for 12 PM today at Kuje Magistrate.
