The promotion of 5,718 senior police officers from the force’s general duty and speciality cadres was approved, the Police Service Commission (PSC) stated on Thursday.

Additionally, the commission authorised the promotion of 12 Commissioners of Police to the position of Assistant Inspector General of Police and the elevation of 19 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the substantive level of Commissioner.

In addition, Solomon Arase, the commission’s chairman, who made the announcement in Abuja, said that 33 Chief Superintendents of Police were also promoted to Assistant Commissioner while 21 Assistant Commissioners of Police were raised to the next rank of DCPs.

Arase insisted that the newly promoted police always keep in mind that the enforcement culture is based on a people-friendly attitude, respect for citizens’ fundamental rights, and an unyielding fighting spirit to deal with societal problems.

Arase continued by praising Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, for working with the Commission to make sure that promotions, for the first time in a very long time, had permeated all of the Force’s departments.
