Police are looking into a possible attack on Yahaya Bello, CP
The alleged attack on Kogi State Governor Yahaha Bello on Sunday night, which allegedly took place a short distance from Abuja, has been the subject of an inquiry by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.
The news was revealed by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, in a late-night phone conversation with our correspondent on Sunday.
In response to a question from our correspondent regarding the reported attack on the governor’s convoy, CP Garba stated, “We’re investigating.”
According to The PUNCH, the Kogi State Government said on Sunday that Yahaya Bello had been the target of an attempted murder while travelling from Lokoja, the state’s capital, to an official engagement a few miles from Abuja.
In a formal letter, the state’s information commissioner, Kingsley Fanwo, asserted that the attack took place on Sunday, October 22, 2023, about 4 p.m.
The attackers, who were wearing military uniforms, diverted the governor’s convoy and began periodically shooting at his car and the other cars around, according to Fanwo. To thwart the mysterious warriors’ demonic ambitions, security guards working for the governor had to act quickly.
The last roadblock, he continued, was around Kwali Federal Capital Territory at roughly 4.20 p.m., he said, adding that the attacks had occurred at three distinct sites.
The report of these peculiar attacks has been appropriately logged at security offices at the state and federal levels for timely and in-depth investigations to prevent recurrences. We are aware that some people are determined to portray Kogi as dangerous before the governorship election scheduled for November 11, 2023.
“As a government, we will stop at nothing to prevent desperate politicians who support terrorism and violence from posing a security threat to our population. The administration is in charge of maintaining security, and we want to reassure you that the tranquilly our state has had for the past eight years won’t be sacrificed to bloody politics, he said.
