A request by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to uphold his election, which the Court of Appeal, a lower court, had declared invalid in November of last year, was received by the Supreme Court on Tuesday. The court postponed its decision in this case.
At the 18 March Plateau State gubernatorial election, Mr. Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 525,299 votes, defeating Nentawe Yilwatda of the All Progressives Congress, who received 481,370 votes.

The Plateau State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Jos, the state capital, upheld the results of the governor’s race.
In contrast, Mr. Mutfwang filed an appeal with the Supreme Court to contest the lower court’s ruling after the Court of Appeal in Abuja reversed his victory in a ruling on November 19, 2023.
A five-member panel of the Supreme Court chaired by John Okoro heard arguments from solicitors representing the parties involved in the case on Tuesday during the appeal hearing.
Following a heated exchange of arguments between the attorneys representing Mr. Mutfwang, Kanu Agabi, and Mr. Yilwatda, J.O. Olatoke, the Supreme Court announced that the parties involved in the lawsuit will be notified of the date of the ruling.
Before the appeal’s expiration date of January 16th, the Supreme Court is anticipated to render a decision in this case.
