The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially named a new acting national chairman, marking a significant shift in the party’s leadership amid ongoing internal challenges.

A group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Yayari Mohammed as its new Acting National Chairman amidst the party’s ongoing crisis.

This decision comes after reports of the suspension of Ambassador Illiya Damagum, who is serving as the acting national chairman.

Even though a Federal High Court in Abuja recently issued an order preventing the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) from removing Damagum, the party went ahead with the appointment.

On Friday, the court issued a temporary order preventing any action against Damagum’s role as Acting National Chairman.

Nonetheless, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Debo Ologunagba, declared Mohammed’s appointment in an official statement that same day.

The statement declares, “After the suspension of His Excellency, Amb. Illiya Damagum from his role as Acting National Chairman of our esteemed party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the National Working Committee (NWC) has sanctioned Alhaji Yayari Ahmed Mohammed’s appointment as the new Acting National Chairman.”

The appointment, effective immediately, is in accordance with the provisions of the PDP Constitution as amended in 2017.
