Breaking news: Osun confirms two Monkeypox cases in Ilesa West. Find out how the state is responding to this health threat.

In the Ilesa West Local Government Area, two cases of monkeypox have been confirmed by the Osun State Government.

The State Hospital in Ilesa West is currently treating two males, aged five and 25 respectively, as stated by Mr. Jola Akinola, the Commissioner for Health of the state.

The Ministry of Health’s Information Officer, Segilola Babalola, released a statement in which Akinola advised residents to remain calm and assured them that the situation is being managed.

Highlighting the government’s proactive strategy, the commissioner cited their success in effectively addressing prior health threats like COVID-19 and a potential outbreak of cholera.

“Our team is fully prepared to tackle the challenge at hand as we activate the Monkeypox Emergency Operations Centre (EOC),” stated Akinola. “Every Monday, strategic meetings will be held to discuss and implement measures that aim to prevent virus transmission.”

Dr. Akindele Adekunle, the State Governor’s Special Adviser on Public Health, lauded the state partners’ endeavors and reasserted the governor’s dedication to preserving a vigilant approach towards public health concerns.

The State Epidemiologist, Dr. Omolola Adeagbo, supplied additional information on the matter indicating that 47 suspected cases were reported in 13 Local Government Areas from the start of the year up to Week 34. Ilesa West had two confirmed instances which formed part of these reports.

In order to halt the spread of infection, a Rapid Response Team has been dispatched by the state to impacted regions. Their tasks consist of advocating for preventive measures and raising awareness within communities through various means while simultaneously conducting active case locating activities in both healthcare facilities and local neighborhoods.

The health and well-being of the people residing in Osun State is a top priority for its government, who assures that appropriate actions are being implemented to control the spread of the outbreak.
