Adamawa LP gubernatorial candidate drops Peter Obi and backs Tinubu for president in breaking news

Engr Umar Mustapha, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for governor in Adamawa State, has merged his campaign organisation with that of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in support of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for the party’s presidential nomination.

At a ceremony held on Thursday night in Yola, Mustapha, who has been distant from the state and national leadership of his Labour Party for some time, formally broke ties with the organisation.

He declared at the APC-organized ceremony that, despite continuing to run for governor of Adamawa State as a member of the Labour Party, he is not endorsing Peter Obi.

According to him, even as the party’s nominee for governor in the state, Peter Obi, “the Labour Party is all about Peter Obi and the aspirations of other candidates at the various levels does not matter to the Labour Party.”

He asserted that the party’s national and state leaderships both show disregard for candidates other than the Labour Party’s nominee for president.

He continued by saying that after learning that the Labour Party leadership in Adamawa State intended to support PDP candidates in every election save the presidential one, he and his governorship campaign team were obliged to withdraw their support for the party’s presidential campaign.

We chose to merge our entire system with the APC apparatus for the presidential election, he continued, after much deliberation and debate.
