Electricity workers have shut down the country’s grid in response to organised labour unions’ announcement of an indefinite strike.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria’s spokeswoman, Ndidi Mbah, exclusively verified this to OBASANJO NEWS24 on Tuesday.
She claims that a statewide blackout occurred on Monday around 11:20 am as a result of the National Union of power Employees (NUEE), the union that represents power workers, following the Nigeria Labour Congress’s directives to stop providing their services.

She said, “Electricity workers are NLC members; they’ve complied with organised labor’s directive to cease operations on Tuesday.”
According to information obtained by OBASANJO NEWS24, there is a blackout across the Federal Capital Territory and its surroundings.
Remember that on Tuesday, the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, in defiance of a court order prohibiting them from doing so, declared a statewide indefinite strike.
In response to the incident, the Presidency claimed that union strike action constituted a flagrant disregard for the legal system and a disrespect for the judiciary in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy.
As a result, the government voiced its displeasure that any union leader’s personal interests should not come before the country’s economy and social activities.
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, the unions threatened to call a nationwide walkout last week due to an attack on NLC President Joe Ajaero on November 1, 2023, in Imo State.
