A tragic incident occurred at the Obasanjo Library’s zoo, where a 35-year-old worker was killed by a lion. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.
The Ogun State Police Command on Sunday confirmed that a zoo staff member at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Babaji Daure (35), died after being mauled by a lion on Saturday.
The state Police Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement sent to journalists on Sunday.
The lion keeper, who is from Bauf State, was said to have forgotten to lock and barricade the lion’s enclosure before approaching the cage to feed the lion.

This allegedly allowed the lion to escape and attack the keeper, sustaining injuries to its neck and ultimately resulting in its death.
The body of the victim was retrieved and rushed to the Ijai General Hospital mortuary while the ferocious lion was reportedly shot to escape the control of its attendants.
