BREAKING: Kano experiences another wave of protests

Residents of Kano’s “Kurnar Asabe” neighbourhood are holding a protest in response to reports that a police officer killed one of their neighbours on Tuesday night.

PREMIUM TIMES was informed by witnesses that the police were called in to break up a brawl between two competing street groups (Yan Daba).

Residents claimed that one Salisu player was shot and killed as police opened fire to break up the throng.

According to a witness who wished to remain anonymous for security concerns, “the police arrived at the scene to maintain law and order and they started shooting which resulted in the death of Mr. Player, who was not among the warring groups.”

The informant claimed that after Mr. Player’s death, the brawl became out of control.

The source also said that a dispute over a young woman was the reason behind the first altercation.

“A dispute over a female who has suitors from both opposing factions was the cause of the altercation. The source said, “The fighting started on Monday and went on until late Tuesday.

Haruna Kiyawa, the state’s police spokeswoman, was not available for comment on the development because his known phone number did not work on Wednesday morning.
