Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State disclosed that the state is burdened with a significant amount of debt, which was inherited from the previous administration led by Nyesom Wike.
This revelation was made during the inauguration of the Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo Road, also known as Old Bori Road in Eleme Local Government Area.
The ongoing power struggle between Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has been a prominent issue in the state’s political landscape.
Despite attempts at mediation by President Bola Tinubu, the tension between the two politicians persists.

Governor Fubara contradicted claims made by Wike that the state was debt-free, highlighting that many projects initiated by the previous administration remain unpaid.
Contractors involved in these projects are seeking outstanding payments, indicating the financial challenges faced by the state.
While the exact amount of the state’s debt was not disclosed by Governor Fubara, he emphasized the necessity of addressing this issue, especially in response to criticisms from his opponents.
The governor underscored the importance of transparency in revealing the financial status of the state and ensuring that all contractual obligations are met.
