Malam Salihu Lukman, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC), has tendered his resignation from the party.
Lukman cited the lack of internal democracy within the APC as the reason for his decision.
He further criticized the party for its failure to implement necessary reforms. Lukman, who previously served as the Director General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, conveyed his resignation through a statement issued in Abuja on June 12th. Titled “APC and The Future of Nigerian Democracy: Letter to Selected APC Leaders,” the statement outlined Lukman’s concerns and his intention to work with like-minded individuals who are dedicated to promoting and advancing democracy in Nigeria.
Lukman expressed his belief in the possibility of a strong democracy in Nigeria, with functional political parties and governments that prioritize the welfare of Nigerians.
While he acknowledged that his decision may not be met with agreement from party leaders, he remained optimistic that unity could be achieved among all party leaders and Nigerians who share a commitment to the development of Nigerian democracy.
