A major fire outbreak has devastated the Lagos plank market, resulting in extensive property damage. Firefighters are working to contain the blaze.
The Ebute Metta area of Lagos State is currently experiencing a fire incident at the Oko Baba plank market.
At present, the site is being attended to by emergency responders such as representatives from Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services as well as Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
On Sunday, news of the incident was first shared by a social media user with the moniker #Stylomedia, also known as Adedeji Olalekan. According to his report, the fire had already extended its reach to various shanties situated within the market area.
“Okobaba Street is currently on fire and all the shanties are being engulfed in flames,” he wrote.
The incident was also confirmed by LASEMA’s spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, who conveyed a brief statement through WhatsApp.
He observed that search and rescue operations are currently underway at the impacted location near Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta. These activities involve various emergency teams such as the LASEMA Response Team, LRU Fire Unit, and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
