The appeal against the election of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, was denied by the Court of Appeal in Abuja. Dr. Umar Ardo, a candidate for governorship from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), filed the case.

Ardo filed a petition with the Tribunal to void Fintiri’s election as governor, claiming that the poll had broken the Electoral Act, after Fintiri was officially pronounced the winner.

Justice T. O. Uloho, the chairman of the panel, rejected the petition, citing incompetence and incorrect filing.

Judge Ugochukwu Ogaku of the Appeal Court concurred with the Tribunal in its ruling on Tuesday, ruling that the appellants’ charges against INEC of corrupt practises and Electoral Act noncompliance were not supported by evidence.

He declared that the appeal could not be granted.

This appeal lacks any kind of merit. The court declared, “The Tribunal’s decision to dismiss the Petition is hereby affirmed.”
