Emeka Ihedioha, a former governor of Imo State, has made the decision to resign from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP chairman in Mbutu Ward, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area, Ihedioha explained that his departure from the party was due to a misalignment between his personal beliefs and the current direction of the main opposition party.
Despite his resignation, Ihedioha emphasized his unwavering commitment to the progress of democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
Ihedioha, who had been a member of the PDP since its establishment in 1998, highlighted his significant contributions to the party’s growth and development over the years.

However, he expressed disappointment with recent developments within the PDP, stating that the party has strayed from its fundamental principles.
He raised concerns about the party’s failure to implement internal reforms, uphold its own regulations, and effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In his resignation letter, Ihedioha regretfully acknowledged that the PDP has taken a path that contradicts his personal beliefs. Despite his efforts to provide guidance and counsel, he observed that the party is no longer capable of carrying out internal reforms, enforcing its own rules, or providing credible opposition to the APC. Consequently, he felt compelled to tender his immediate resignation from the People’s Democratic Party.
Although the decision to resign was a difficult one, Ihedioha firmly believes that it is the right choice for him. Nevertheless, he assured that he will remain available to contribute his services towards the advancement of democracy and good governance in Nigeria. Despite stepping away from the PDP, his dedication to the betterment of the country remains unwavering.
