On Sunday, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) apprehended Shizzer Joy Nasara Bada at Lagos airport. Bada previously served as the Commissioner of Finance and Accountant General in Kaduna State during Nasir el-Rufai’s tenure.
It was reported that Bada attempted to flee the country, giving rise to suspicions of an endeavor to avoid investigations concerning corruption.
Bada’s movements were being closely monitored by the ICPC due to intelligence reports that indicated she may intend to escape prosecution for the allegations made against her.
Several officials who served under former Governor el-Rufai are now being investigated for financial misconduct, and her arrest is a part of this broader probe.

El-Rufai has been accused by the Kaduna State House of Assembly of misappropriating a sum totaling ₦423 billion from the state’s treasury.
