(BREAKING) Edo poll: Court Rules in Favor of PDP Candidate Ighodalo Against Shuaibu
Court rules in favor of PDP candidate Ighodalo in the case brought by Shuaibu and others. Discover the details and implications of this verdict.
The candidacy of Asue Ighodalo for the upcoming governorship election in Edo State has been upheld by a Federal High Court in Abuja, after it dismissed a lawsuit brought forward by impeached Deputy Governor Phillip Shuaibu and other petitioners who sought to invalidate his nomination.
It was alleged by the plaintiffs that Ighodalo had forged his voter’s card.
On Wednesday, Justice James Omotosho declared that the suit was time-barred since it had been filed beyond the 14-day deadline allowed for pre-election cases in accordance with Section 285(9) of the Constitution.

Moreover, Justice Omotosho asserted that the accusers did not substantiate their claims of forgery against Ighodalo.
Although Section 182 of the Constitution allows a candidate to be disqualified for forgery or not having a voter’s card, there was inadequate proof given to validate this accusation.
