He was promoted to the bench of the Supreme Court on November 22, 2011 and officially appointed as CJN on June 27, 2022.
Justice Tanko Muhammad’s resignation led to the appointment of Ariwoola as CJN.
On September 21, 2022, the Nigerian Senate officially ratified Justice Ariwoola as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
The retirement proceedings of Ariwoola are currently unfolding at the Supreme Court.
According to indications, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun is poised to take over from Ariwoola and become the new CJN.
