BREAKING: Ajaero’s attackers have been arrested by the FG

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, expressed regret to organised labour on Wednesday for the attack on Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero on November 1 in Owerri, Imo State’s capital.

After storming Owerri to lead a demonstration, Ajaero was detained for hours and subjected to severe beatings.

Consequently, the labour movement threatened a statewide strike if the demands were not satisfied and gave the government until to accomplish a number of goals, including the arrest of those behind the Ajaero attack.

Although the Federal Government had filed a lawsuit to halt the strike, it started on Monday and caused nationwide disruptions to daily operations.

In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by Zakari U. Mijinyawa, the Head of Strategic Communications at the Office of the National Security Adviser, Ribadu urged the movement to reverse its decisions regarding the ongoing strike. He also mentioned that Ajaero’s attackers had been apprehended and that investigations had begun.

According to Ribadu, the federal government expresses sadness for the Imo event and condemns it completely, pointing out that it violates the rule of law and the values of free speech and association that President Tinubu and his administration uphold.
