After a three-month medical leave of absence, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has returned to the nation.
In need of medical care after becoming ill, Akeredolu travelled to Germany.
He arrived at his home today (Thursday), according to a dependable government source who spoke to Vanguard.
According to Vanguard, he has given orders for key party leaders and members of the state Executive Council to meet with him at his home in Lagos on Friday.
The acting governor, Lucky Ayedatiwa, will be leading a briefing from Akeredolu’s cabinet members.
The governor, according to sources, would spend a few weeks in Lagos before starting work again in earnest.
The governor’s medical leave, which he started in June, was extended by the state House of Assembly on the doctor’s recommendation.
The governor was shown in a widely shared photo on the inside of the aircraft he boarded.
They announced that they were “Homebound” on the Facebook page of the First Lady, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu.
The source said, “Yes, I can confirm to you that the Eagle has landed and his executive members are meeting with him on Friday at his residence in lbadan.
“Lucky Ayedatiwa, the governor’s deputy, would brief him on what was going on. Before starting work again in earnest, he would remain in Lbadan for a while.
Before resuming work, the governor “would write to the state House of Assembly.”
In the meantime, Governor Akeredolu congratulated President Bola Tinubu on the decision of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), which affirmed his victory in the presidential election on February 25.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), which Akeredolu represents, was also congratulated on winning.
The PEPT ruling, according to him, reaffirms the will of the people and the administration of President Tinubu.
His chief press secretary, Richard Olatunde, issued the following statement in Akure: “This ruling has again deepened our country’s jurisprudence and strengthened our devotion to democratic values.
We must embrace the democratic tents, which include post-election lawsuits, in order to be true democratic actors.
“Our admiration for democratic values must be fueled by our fight for service.
“Justice was served by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. We must unite right away to forge our country.
The promise of a paradigm shift, according to Akeredolu, is the foundation of President Tinubu’s renewed hope initiative.
The February 25 presidential election outcome, which the Tribunal confirmed, reflects the majority of Nigerians’ wishes, who overwhelmingly supported the APC.
“Once more, our judicial system has met expectations. Our conviction that it is still the people’s only hope has been confirmed by this.
“We all need to express gratitude for the crucial part our judiciary has played in enhancing our democracy and preserving justice.
“Despite the fact that we have court dates coming up, we implore Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party to put down their weapons and work with the President to advance the nation.
All supporters of democracy should sincerely appreciate the Tribunal’s decision. Our dedication to moving the national enterprise forward must be based on a national interest that places the welfare of the populace above personal success.
“Since our passion for a prosperous country shapes our shared vision, let us embrace the will of the people and assist the President in implementing his Renewed Hope agenda,” the statement reads.
Akeredolu urged Nigerians to refrain from dividing politics and remarks, saying that election-related issues shouldn’t undermine the country’s unity.
