During Abuja protests, police disperse protesters and chase away journalists. Learn more about the events and their aftermath.

The arrests took place right beside the stadium, which was chosen as the location for the protest. The organizers had originally requested to use Eagle Square but their access was rejected.

The MKO Abiola National Stadium was designated as the confined location for protesters by court order obtained by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) authorities.

The third day of the protest saw a noticeable absence of demonstrators at the stadium during early morning hours.

However, by approximately 11 AM, small clusters started gathering again. As their numbers slowly increased over time, law enforcement responded with firing shots and deploying tear gas which led to several arrests being made.

The journalists present on site were apprehended but after confirming their identities, they were let go and directed to leave the premises promptly.
