Hoodlums have set fire to the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, building in Ebonyi State’s Izzi Local Government Area.

According to the Daily Post, the structure was destroyed by the thugs in the early hours of Sunday.

Festus Okoye, the chairman of the INEC information and voter education committee, verified this in a tweet.

The event happened at about 10 am, according to Mrs Onyeka Pauline Ugochi, the resident commissioner for INEC in Ebonyi State, who was mentioned in the tweet.

Despite the structure and surrounding houses being demolished, no casualties were reported.

340 ballot boxes, 14 power generators, 130 voting booths, sizable water storage tanks, office furniture, and an unknown number of voter cards were among the items destroyed, along with other assets.

According to INEC, this is the third attack on their facilities since the 10th of November 2022, when the offices in Ogun and Osun states were targeted.
