Borno: Herdsmen Attack Farmer, Maim Him Severely

In Borno State, a farmer has been attacked by herdsmen who brutally severed his hands.

On Friday, the occurrence took place in Bassam Galomari village situated in Gubio II Ward within the jurisdiction of Gubio Local Government Area of the State.

On Saturday, Zagazola Makama revealed this information on his X profile. He is an expert in countering terrorism and insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin region.

According to Makama, the conflict arose when the herders carrying cattle trespassed onto a farm owned by a community member.

According to the security expert, when the farmer tried to remove the herdsmen from his land, they opposed and one of them subsequently assaulted him by severing both his hands.

“At 1:30 pm on Friday, August 2nd, 2024 in Bassam Galomari Village located under Gubio II Ward of the Gubio Local Government Area; a violent incident took place,” he stated.

A group of Fulani herdsmen, accompanied by their cattle, trespassed into a farm owned by a resident resulting in an altercation.

The herdsmen on the farmer’s property refused to vacate despite his efforts. During a scuffle, one of the Fulani men assaulted him and severed both hands.

After being rushed to Gubio Hospital, the victim was referred to Maiduguri Hospital for additional medical attention.

Bassam Galomari Village has been declared unsafe following the incident, with cautionary advice to avoid the area being issued.

“The security agencies have been directed to take action towards resolving the crises.”
