Farm areas in Borno’s Gamboru/Ngala Local Government Area have been overrun by marauding elephants.
The Borno Ministry of Environment’s Director of Forestry and Wildlife, Mr. Ayuba Peter, confirmed the news to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday. He stated that the ministry had received reports and was assembling a team to visit the region.
According to Peter, the elephants came from the neighbouring Cameroon Republic’s Waza National Park.

The herd, which originates from Waza National Park, used to travel annually via the Gamboru/Ngala and Kala-Balge Local Government Areas between Cameroon and Nigeria.
Peter declared, “We have mobilised our men; all we need now is for Federal Ministry of Environment personnel to join us and move into the area at any moment.”
Speaking about the situation, Malam Mustafa Bukar, the Director of Pest Control for the Borno Ministry of Agriculture, stated that while he was aware of the incident, he had not yet received an official complaint from the impacted region.
According to Bukar, “the only complaints we have received thus far are about Quela birds and grasshoppers in the Dikwa, Molai, and Muna axis of Dikwa, Konduga, and Jere LGAs, which have been contained.”
