Booing of Lamidi Apapa in the Presidential Tribunal
Some party members protested Apapa’s attempt to sit in the position designated for the Abure.
Lamidi Apapa, a factional leader of the Labour Party (LP), was mocked by party members in the camp of the party’s national chairman, Julius Abure, upon his appearance at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday in Abuja.
The event took place outside the Appeal Court, where the Tribunal met in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of the country.
A police officer led Apapa out of the building while party members booed him loudly.
Dramatic events earlier took place as the Tribunal resumed the pre-hearing of Peter Obi’s petition against Bola Tinubu, the President-Elect, filed by the League of Progressives.
Just before the Tribunal started meeting, there was a dispute between the two factions of the Labour Party over which group should appear in court.
Some party members opposed Apapa’s attempt to take Abure’s seat and to sit in that spot as well. Obi was present when the fight broke out.
As representatives from the two camps were introduced, the Tribunal declined to accept a presence for the LP.
According to Justice Haruna Tsamani, if a party is represented by two people, their appearance will not be recorded.
The pre-hearing portion of the case was continued, and the Tribunal postponed it until May 19, 2023.
