On Tuesday, Boko Haram insurgents carried out an attack on Chibok town in Borno State’s Chibok Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and numerous injuries.
This incident brings back memories of the rebels’ invasion of the Government Girls Secondary School in April 2014, where they abducted more than 300 students and brought national attention to the town.
The recent attack took place at 7 p.m. and caused panic among the residents. Moses Adamu, a local resident, reported that people fled into the nearby bushes to seek safety as the rebels unleashed violence by shooting, destroying houses, and looting food. Many residents spent the night in the bushes, while some sought refuge in neighboring communities.
Adamu mentioned that two people were confirmed dead due to the terrorists’ gunshots, but there could be more casualties that are yet to be determined as people gradually return home. The Borno State Police Command confirmed the attack and stated that a joint team of the military, police, and local vigilante swiftly responded to repel the insurgents.
Unfortunately, two individuals lost their lives during the attack, namely Mr. Badi, aged 75, and Ngule, aged 45. However, the situation has now returned to normal, according to ASP Nahum Kenneth, the state Police Public Relations Officer.
