Suspected Boko Haram militants have started a new onslaught in Yobe State, killing at least ten locals.

The event occurred on Thursday in the North-Eastern State’s Buni Gari, Gujba Local Government Area.

Baba Ibrahim and Iliya Maina, two inhabitants of Buni Gari, told Channels Television over the phone that they learned about the attack when one Shettima Dawi left to look for firewood a few kilometres away but was unable to come back.

His family members and neighbours mobilised in response to the crisis to search for him in the jungle, only to come under attack by the alleged Boko Haram rebels.

Residents reported that 10 people were slain by the suspected rebels when they went in search of their brother (Shettima Dawi), who had gone out searching for firewood a few kilometres away from Buni Gari on Thursday but was unable to come home.

Just one of the 10 people who went into the woods to seek for Shettima survived with minor injuries and is receiving medical attention; the others, including the first victim, Shettima Dawi, were all slain.

Dungus Abdulkarim, a spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, said that he had not yet received any information regarding the attack.

As of the time this report was written, Abdulkarim, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, has not followed through on his commitment to call back.
