In the early hours of Sunday, suspected Boko Haram militants launched an attack on the 330kV transmission line that links Damaturu and Maiduguri, occurring merely three weeks after its restoration by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
A report from security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, reveals that the assailants employed improvised explosive devices (IEDs) around 2 a.m., resulting in significant power outages in Maiduguri and surrounding areas.
Makama criticized TCN for its choice to publicly announce the restoration of power via social media, deeming it “unprofessional” and “dangerously counterproductive.”

He warned that such announcements could provoke additional attacks from terrorist organizations.
Makama, recognized for his incisive critiques of security protocols, highlighted Boko Haram’s pattern of targeting critical infrastructure in the region.
He expressed apprehension regarding TCN’s communication approach, suggesting that the company has not learned from past incidents and lacks adequate crisis management capabilities.
