A significant event has transpired in Borno State, where a Boko Haram commander named Adamu Muhammad, along with five other suspected fighters, have turned themselves in to military authorities. The Chief Military Public Information Officer of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in N’djamena, Chad, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, made this announcement in a statement released on Friday in Maiduguri.
This surrender, which took place on May 2, was a direct result of the increased military operations in the region. Adamu, aged 22, who was notorious for his involvement in various terrorist attacks in Borno, fled from the ISWAP faction hideout in Jubillaram, located in southern Lake Chad, before surrendering.
Upon surrendering, the group handed over 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one anti-aircraft warhead. The other fighters who surrendered alongside Adamu include Isah Ali (18), Hassan Modu (18), Nasir Idris (23), Usman Rash’s escort in Jubillaram, Abba Aji (21), and Abubakar Isah.
The surrendered individuals are currently under investigation. This recent development brings the total number of terrorists who have surrendered since the beginning of Operation Lake Sanity II on April 23 to 119. The MNJTF is encouraging other terrorists to follow suit, surrender their weapons, and choose the path of peace.
