In the Alawa areas of Shiroro local government in Niger State, the bodies of at least six missing Nigerian military personnel have been discovered.

This tragic incident took place during a fierce gun battle between the soldiers, vigilantes, and a large group of armed men suspected to be members of the notorious Boko Haram sect.

The armed men, numbering in the hundreds, had reportedly besieged the Bassa community for three days, causing havoc and even setting two houses ablaze in the Masigo community.

In response to distress calls from the affected communities, the Military Joint Task Force of Alawa, Erena, and Pandogari, along with local vigilante groups in Shiroro, joined forces and engaged the bandits in a fierce battle at Lolo in the Alawa area.

Unfortunately, casualties were reported on both sides, including a captain, a major, and four others. The bodies of the deceased were found in the bush with bullet wounds to their heads, indicating the intensity of the conflict.

The entire area has now been cordoned off by the military, and efforts are underway to track down the Boko Haram insurgents responsible for this attack.

The Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security, General Garba Abdullahi Mohammed, has confirmed the incident but has not disclosed the exact number of casualties.

The military authorities are yet to officially confirm the reported deaths of the officers and soldiers involved in this tragic event.
