Bode George clarifies that Governor Fubara is the recognized PDP leader in Rivers State, stating that Nyesom Wike no longer controls the party’s affairs in the state.

Bode George, a leader within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to reconcile in order to restore peace in Rivers State.

Political tension has escalated in the state following a series of unsettling events since the political fallout between the two men.

The most recent incident occurred on Monday, when several local government secretariats were set ablaze just as the newly elected officials were about to begin their duties.

In response to the incident on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Monday, George expressed that his primary concern is restoring peace in the oil-rich state.

He stated that he will remain neutral and seeks only justice, equity, and fairness in the politics of Rivers State.

However, he stated that Governor Fubara is the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and requires support from everyone within the party to succeed.

“Justice is about identifying who the party leader in the state truly is. It’s not the minister, it’s actually this governor,” George stated.

Therefore, we must support him. The remarkable part is that he clearly stated he wouldn’t leave the party before they conducted this election.

The PDP leader mentioned that he and other members of the party’s Board of Trustees have attempted to mediate between Wike and Fubara.

I spoke with the chairman of the board of trustees and then tried to visit Fubara along with a group of BOT members, so we could hear his perspective. Afterward, I contacted Wike about scheduling an appointment for us to meet him.

“He mentioned that once he returns from China, he’ll be ready to meet with them. Unfortunately, they’ve already been there while I haven’t had the chance yet, so I’m unaware of the outcome,” George explained.

He claimed that it is the responsibility of the party’s BOT to address issues like this.
