Bode George declares Nigeria is in a political and economic ICU. Learn more about his statements and what they mean for the country’s future.

On Thursday, Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), implored President Bola Tinubu to re-examine his policies in order to bring happiness back into the lives of Nigerians.

While speaking at a press conference in Lagos about the nation’s current status, George urged the President to address issues concerning oil and gas as well as power sectors that have been hindering progress. He believes this will lead Nigeria out of its difficulties.

If I stay silent when things aren’t going well despite my training and employment by this nation, it would be a failure on my part. Thus, standing up for what’s right isn’t about fighting but rather fulfilling one’s duty.

Nigeria is currently in a critical condition both politically and economically, requiring skilled specialists to operate on these delicate areas – political surgeons for the former and economic ones for the latter.

“We are referring to individuals who have previously experienced this, and they should be able to impart a sense of rejuvenation as we emerge. It is necessary for us to bring happiness to Nigerians, regardless of their location.”

George said, “While some of us are able to cope, what about the countless young Nigerians who can’t even afford a single meal?”

The veteran politician advised the President to be honest with Nigerians when discussing topics relating to fuel subsidy and the oil and gas industry.

The PDP leader lamented the exorbitant price of electricity, stating that it has driven numerous small enterprises out of business.

George was surprised that ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo had bought 18 gas turbines but hadn’t fired any of them. He emphasized the crucial role of reliable and affordable power supply in supporting the economy.

George praised the peaceful participation of young Nigerians in providing policy feedback to the government during the #EndBadGovernance protest across the country.

Regarding food insecurity, the PDP leader remarked that importing food was not a viable solution. Rather, he emphasized implementing policies in the short-, medium-, and long-term to empower farmers.

He suggested that the President convene a closed-door meeting with former and current bank managing directors to determine the next steps.

George recommended that the President and National Assembly review the 2014 National Conference, as he believed in pursuing restructuring, power decentralization, resources management and electoral improvements.

In response to the recent Supreme Court decision providing full autonomy to local governments, he stated that there should be no interference from the Federal Government in matters concerning local governance.

Continuing on, the seasoned politician denounced the purported tyrannical behavior of Lagos State’s task force in confiscating and selling off motorcycles and cars belonging to individuals who violated traffic laws, labeling it as cruelty.

Nigeria’s progress is being hindered by tribalism and religious bigotry, according to the senior statesman who suggests burying these issues.
