On Sunday, young people in Benin held a demonstration against the infamous transgender person living in Edo State, Idris Okuneye, better known by his stage name Bobrisky.
The protest was sparked by claims that Bobrisky had insulted the Oba of Benin in a video clip that went viral in 2022.
In the video, Bobrisky made the suggestion that he should wed the Oba of Benin. Although meant as a jest, the statement appears to have outraged Benin citizens, who saw it as demeaning to their country’s rich cultural legacy.

But over the weekend, Bobrisky went to Benin for an event, which sparked a passionate and impromptu reaction from the young people who came together in large numbers to express their disgust.
The students displayed their disdain with posters that read, “He is a bad influence; We don’t want him in our state,” in the widely shared online video of the demonstration.
Bobrisky reportedly had to flee Benin City quickly for his safety as the protest got out of hand.
