Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in preparation for his sentencing set for April 9, 2024, following his admission of guilt to charges of Naira abuse in a Lagos Federal High Court.

The EFCC had brought forward a six-count charge against Bobrisky, primarily focusing on Naira abuse in the first four counts and money laundering in the last two counts. The prosecutor from the EFCC requested the court to dismiss the final two counts before proceeding with the charges.

Bobrisky acknowledged his guilt in relation to the Naira abuse charges and expressed a desire for leniency, emphasizing his lack of awareness regarding the laws governing Naira abuse. He promised to utilize his social media platform, boasting over five million followers, to educate others on the subject and expressed remorse for his actions as a first-time offender.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro has set the date of April 9, 2024, for Bobrisky’s sentencing and has ordered his detention in EFCC custody until that time. This decision follows Bobrisky’s arrest and detention by the EFCC on April 3, 2024, prompted by a video showing him spraying new Naira notes at a movie premiere in Lagos on March 24, 2024.
