On Monday evening, President Bola Tinubu gave his approval for the immediate dissolution of the boards of all parastatals, agencies, institutions, and government-owned businesses under the federal government.
This is being done in the public interest and in the exercise of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation’s constitutional rights, according to a statement made by Willie Bassey, Director of Information for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
However, the boards, commissions, and councils mentioned in the Third Schedule, Part 1, Section 153 (i), of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, are unaffected by the dissolution.
The chief executive officers of the parastatals, agencies, institutions, and government-owned companies are instructed to refer matters requiring the attention of their Boards to the President through the Permanent Secretaries of their respective supervisory ministries and offices in light of this development and until new boards are established.
Additionally, Permanent Secretaries are instructed to send such letters to the President through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Therefore, as of Friday, June 16, 2023, all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies must ensure that the directive’s provisions are followed.
Permanent Secretaries are specifically instructed to notify the chief executive officers of the concerned agencies that fall under the purview of their respective ministries or offices for prompt compliance.
