Bishop Kukah calls on President Tinubu to take urgent action to tackle the ongoing food crisis and lower petrol prices, highlighting the impact of these issues on Nigerians.
Addressing the food crisis in the country has been encouraged by Most Reverend Matthew Kukah, who holds the position of Bishop at Sokoto Catholic Diocese. He directed his appeal towards President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
On Friday, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) unveiling of the Progressive Institute in Abuja, Kukah encouraged Tinubu with his comments.
He stated that Nigerians are famished and immediate action is necessary.
He urged for immediate measures to be implemented in lowering the fuel expenses.
The occasion was attended by government officials including governors, ministers, party leaders and appointees from national as well as state levels.
Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, graced the occasion alongside delegates from Vice President Kashim Shettima and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reports that Nigeria is currently facing one of the most severe food crises ever recorded, as food inflation has risen by more than 40 per cent.

Many in the country are demanding a reversal of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) decision to raise the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, from roughly N585 per litre to nearly N900 per litre. This ongoing escalation has caused widespread outrage.
Expounding further, the bishop indicated that unless democracy had an intellectual basis, it would crumble like sand.
In his opinion, politics should be considered a science in order to provide effective leadership rather than being viewed as an opportunity for theft.
Furthermore, he expressed that the Kukah Centre aims to elevate standards.
The clergyman acknowledged that he is not a politician but asserted his belief in advancing quality leadership, emphasizing his political nature.
The National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje mentioned in his statement that the Progressive Institute aims to establish and integrate the party’s ideology.
According to him, it will function as the party’s official policy think-tank and enable dialogue among Nigerians, the academic community, and media outlets in order to foster inclusivity.
He further stated that the institute will be offering guidance and recommendations on policies to the APC-led government at both federal and state levels.
Additionally, Ganduje elucidated that the institute will function as a scholarly forum which will involve global participants.
