The Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union, BEPU, situated in the Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna State, has raised concerns regarding the alarming increase in banditry activities within the region.

The union has made a plea to both the government and security agencies to take necessary actions to safeguard the lives and properties of the residents.

A statement issued by the chairperson of the group, Pharm. Jemila Sani, expressed deep disapproval of the recent tragic incidents involving armed bandits at Unguwan Danko and Unguwan Kanawa in Dogondawa Ward, resulting in the unfortunate loss of 23 individuals.

Despite acknowledging the efforts of security personnel in addressing the situation, the union has urged for more proactive measures to be implemented.

The union has urgently brought to the attention of authorities the recent surge in violent attacks orchestrated by armed bandits in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, particularly highlighting the devastating attack on Unguwan Danko and Unguwan Kanawa of Dogondawa Ward on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, which resulted in the tragic loss of 23 lives.

Furthermore, the statement mentioned an ambush near Mararraban Agero, where four vigilante members lost their lives and several others were abducted, just a day after the previous attack.

The community of Bagoma, a suburb of Birnin Gwari, is facing a humanitarian crisis as a result of the continuous threat of attacks, leading to displacement of women, children, and the elderly.
