The detained Binance executive, Tigran Gambaryan, has lodged accusations against the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly violating his fundamental human rights.
In a legal motion, Gambaryan requested a declaration that his detention and confiscation of his travel document were in violation of Section 35 (1) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
He petitioned the court to mandate the NSA and EFCC release him from their custody and promptly return his passport.
Gambaryan also sought a permanent injunction to prevent the respondents and their agents from detaining him further in connection with any investigations or requests related to Binance.
He further asked the court to compel the respondents to issue a public apology to him.
Gambaryan claimed that he had traveled to Nigeria with Nadeem Anjarwalla to attend an invitation from the NSA and EFCC to discuss Binance-related matters in the country.
He contended that he had not committed any offenses during the meeting and had not been formally notified in writing of any alleged offenses he may have committed in Nigeria or elsewhere.
During the proceedings on Thursday, the plaintiffs’ counsel, T.J. Krukrubo, informed the court that the respondents had been served with the legal documents two days prior.
Shortly after, he declared to the court that he was withdrawing from representing Anjarwalla without providing reasons for his decision.
The presiding judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, adjourned the case until April 8 for further proceedings.
