U.S. President Joe Biden formally opened his re-election campaign on Tuesday. In a video, he pleaded with voters to give him another term so he can “finish the job” his administration started two years prior.
Just months before the November 2024 election, the Democrats and Republicans’ official candidates will not be chosen for either of the two major political parties in the nation.
However, given historical history, it seems improbable that Democrats would choose someone else as their candidate given Biden’s incumbent status. He won his first term in office after defeating Republican President Donald Trump in the 2020 election.
Trump contested the election results and made flimsy allegations of voter fraud. In January 2021, as Congress convened to certify the election, a mob of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol. Biden’s campaign utilized scenes from the attack to open Tuesday’s statement.
Every generation of Americans has had to protect democracy at some point, according to Biden. “Stand up for our individual liberties. Defend our civil rights and the freedom to vote.
Republicans, he claimed, are seeking to limit access to abortions, slash Social Security, restrict voting rights, and “telling people who they can love.”
In preparation for another presidential run, Biden, who was the country’s senior citizen at the time of his inauguration, has played off worries about his advanced age. When a new term began, he would be 82 years old.
