Biden Assures Netanyahu of Non-Support for Retaliatory Action Against Iran – Axios
US President Joe Biden informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the United States would not endorse retaliatory strikes against Iran following the recent missile and drone attacks on Israel, as reported by Axios on Sunday.
During a phone call on Saturday, Biden conveyed this message to Netanyahu, emphasizing concerns about the potential escalation of conflict and its catastrophic consequences. Biden advised Netanyahu to consider the current situation as a victory for Israel and to refrain from retaliatory actions.
The Israeli prime minister acknowledged the US stance on the matter. An Israeli official mentioned that a decision on a response was pending and would be discussed during a war cabinet meeting on Sunday.
Iran’s attack, involving over 300 missiles and drones, was in retaliation for an alleged Israeli strike on Tehran’s consulate in Damascus.
The Israel Defense Forces claimed to have intercepted the majority of the incoming threats, while Iran boasted of causing significant damage to Israeli bases. Despite differing claims, both sides seem to be assessing the situation cautiously.
