Biden Applauds Tinubu’s ‘Strong Leadership’ As ECOWAS Chair

On Sunday, Biden and Tinubu had a meeting outside the G20 summit in New Delhi, India.

In his remarks on Sunday, President Joe Biden praised President Bola Tinubu for his “strong leadership” while serving as the ECOWAS chair.

The president of the United States praised the dedication of his Nigerian counterpart in defending and maintaining democracy in the West African area and the coup-torn Niger Republic.

On the eve of the G20 summit in New Delhi, India, Biden visited with Tinubu and reaffirmed the US’ unwavering commitment to Nigeria.

The White House released a statement saying that President Biden “welcomed the Tinubu Administration’s steps to reform Nigeria’s economy and thanked President Tinubu for his strong leadership as the chair of the Economic Community of West African States to defend and preserve democracy and the rule of law in Niger and the wider region.

The invitation to the G20 Summit by Nigeria is an acknowledgment of its significant global position as the largest democracy and economy in Africa.
