U.S. President Joe Biden has reached out to congratulate President-elect Donald Trump on his election victory and invited him to the White House for talks about the transition of power.
Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris has reportedly reached out to Trump to concede the election. She is scheduled to deliver her concession speech on Wednesday afternoon.
Although the complete count of votes from Tuesday’s presidential election is yet to be finalized, Trump has emerged victorious in five crucial battleground states: Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. He is also expected to win Arizona and Nevada. So far, he has secured at least 292 electoral college votes compared to Harris’s 224. A total of 270 electoral votes are required to win the White House.

The White House informed AP that Biden’s team will work with Trump’s transition team to arrange a date “in the near future.” Additionally, Biden intends to address the nation regarding the election outcome on Thursday.
In July, Democrats urged Biden to withdraw from the race due to concerns about his age, advocating for Harris to replace him at the party convention. On Wednesday, the 81-year-old reportedly also phoned Harris to congratulate her on her campaign.
In the meantime, Harris contacted Trump to concede the election and congratulate him on his win, according to a staff member who spoke to AP under anonymity. It is reported that Harris talked about the “importance of a peaceful transfer of power” prior to her address to the nation.
