Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has explained how, if elected in 2023, he would put an end to the Biafra struggle by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Atiku said that he would talk to IPOB and other pro-Biafra activists in the Southeast.
During a Town Hall meeting, Atiku said that he would use restructuring to calm down some of the IPOB and Biafra activists.
According to the former vice president, the Southeast requires more independence.
According to my understanding, the core of the IPOB problem in the South-East is the realization of Biafra. Is it still feasible for Biafra to exist today?
“How? Through discussions or a new civil war, which we cannot afford to have?
In regards to the Biafra problem, I think we should be able to talk with the South-East agitators.
Because of this, he said, “we pushed for reforming the country, which means giving more power and resources to local governments.”
IPOB, which is led by Nnamdi Kanu, has been in charge of the movement to reunite Biafra for the past few months.
Due to the group’s upheaval, Kanu was detained and is currently being tried in a Nigerian court.
Even though an Abuja appeals court said that the Biafra activist should be set free, the Nigerian government said no.
