The Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa, who is residing in Finland, received a letter from the Finnish government warning him to stop calling for the establishment of the Biafra republic or risk being arrested and charged with terrorism, which the Finnish Embassy in Nigeria has denied.

On Thursday, a statement included the clarification.

Due to suspected hate speech and inciting remarks attributed to the Ekpa-led branch of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had summoned the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Leena Pylvanainen, on Tuesday.

According to reports, the organisation had called for a stay-at-home day and said that the South-East region would not be permitted to hold polls.

The letter did not come from Helsinki, according to the Finnish embassy’s statement.

It said, “This is to advise you that the attached letter purporting to be signed by the Prime Minister of Finland and now making its way through the media does not originate from the Finnish government.

“We have reported the Twitter post that was used to spread this false letter and urged Twitter to take it down. However, copies are still being shared on social media and other websites.

The Embassy would be very grateful if you will consider these information before reporting.
